Fantasy Football Week 8 Sleeper: Jarvis Landry

Have a starting wide receiver on a bye week? Need a strong flex play? You should take a look at Jarvis Landry.

Landry has caught four passes in each of his last three games, and is becoming an increasingly integral part of the Miami Dolphins’ offense. The rookie from Metairie has made it abundantly clear that he is in fact the second best receiver on the team, and has moved up the depth chart rapidly.

For those in PPR leagues, Landry has attained must-own status, and is becoming a viable option to start because of his place in an offense that utilizes the slot receiver extensively. Last week was Ryan Tannehill’s coming out party, and the team’s performance exhibited the kind of short-to-intermediate passing game that can house a sleeper fantasy football wide receiver.

This week, the Dolphins face off against the Jacksonville Jaguars – they have been absolutely horrendous against the pass this season, and just lost star linebacker Paul Posluszny. That’s where Jarvis Landry comes in.

Ryan Tannehill targeted receivers over the middle of the field with gusto last week, and there is no sign that he will do anything else against the Jags this week. Couple that with the fact the Jaguars are at the bottom of the league in kick coverage and Jarvis Landry returns punts and kicks and he starts to look like a sleeper commodity.

Expect the Dolphins to stick to the game plan that beat the Chicago Bears a week ago, and target Landry considerably more. Yes, he has only had 22 receptions in his professional career, but that clip is sure to improve as the Dolphins realize what a gem they have in Landry.

The Jaguars have struggled guarding the routes Landry runs all season, and there is no reason this weekend will be any different. Count on Landry to get five to seven catches for about 60 yards and the potential for a score, and don’t forget that he has the potential to bring one back on special teams. If you’re in a bind or are just feeling like a gambler, start Landry and roll the dice.
