Fantasy Football Week 8 Sleeper: WR Jermaine Kearse

There was a good deal of attention this past week on the supposed rift between Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson and former teammate Percy Harvin. Reports came out claiming that the two have not get along and their distain for each other was the major reason why Harvin was shipped off to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick this week.

Regardless of the reason for the divorce, the departure of the team’s top wideout will leave the offense with a major hole on the outside. One option to step up and take control of the team’s top fantasy football wideout is Jermaine Kearse.

Without Harvin last weekend, Kearse hauled in three balls for 50 yards against the St. Louis Rams. He has now racked up over 50 receiving yards in back-to-back contests and has received 13 targets over that time. He has quietly emerged as the top downfield target for QB Russell Wilson and the duo will continue to produce for the remainder of the season.

The Hawks play an abysmal Carolina Panthers defense this Sunday. The Panthers are currently 22nd in the league against the pass (250.7 yards/game) and the unit has been getting abused downfield all season long. Even better, Carolina is surrendering the third-most fantasy football points to opposing wideouts (26.5 points per game) and this looks like the perfect game for Kearse to have a monster outing.

The favorable matchup, coupled with the departure of Harvin, means Kearse will see plenty of balls again this weekend. He should easily finish with over 60 yards and I fully expect him to haul in his second touchdown catch of the season.
