Fantasy Football Week 8 Start or Sit: Carson Palmer

In what will likely be a pivotal game in the NFC playoff picture, the Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals game will likely come down to the quarterback play. And Cardinals fans are enjoying Carson Palmer at the moment, leading them to the best record in the NFC West.  But fantasy football owners can’t say quite the same because of his injuries. However, he’s now showing why people drafted him and really should be a starter week-in and week-out, especially this week.

Though the Eagles boast the same loss record as the Cardinals, they are quite susceptible to great quarterback play. In fact, the only week they allowed a quarterback below 10 points this season was to Eli Manning in a Week 6 route of the New York Giants. So their most recent game shows they have stopped fantasy-producing quarterbacks, but take a closer look. The Giants were lacking at running back and the Eagles were zoning in on stopping the pass. Add to that, Victor Cruz went down to a season-ending injury, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a team that wouldn’t stop the Giants.

Now, the Eagles are going against a Cardinals offense that has performed to all maximum projections — a threat at running back with Andre Ellington and a receiving corps with two star receivers in Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd, along with a star-in-the-making in John Brown. Combine those assets with the experience and precision Palmer brings to the table, and they could be racking up the scoreboard in what will likely be a high-scoring affair this week.

The Eagles and Cardinals should be changing possessions quite often, with the Cardinals being led by Palmer, who has thrown for over 250 yards and pair of touchdowns in his three starts this season, as opposed to one interception all season. In half of their games this season, the Eagles have allowed three passing touchdowns, and Palmer will become the fourth quarterback to do so this season.

In standard leagues, he’ll total 24 points — tossing over 300 yards with a trio of touchdowns and no turnovers. Unless he’s riding the bench behind a top-tier quarterback, he should be starting on your roster this week.
