Fantasy Football Week 8 Start or Sit: Justin Hunter

Fantasy Football Justin Hunter

The Tennessee Titans face the Houston Texans in Week 8 of the NFL season and, due to injuries and staff lack of confidence, will start rookie quarterback out of LSU Zach Mettenberger over Jake Locker. Mettenberger brings with him a different set of skills that should benefit an athletic, big-play receiver like Justin Hunter — something that should excite fantasy football owners and make him a must-start at the flex-position.

Hunter has underperformed all season long, dropping several passes in the end zone and disappearing at times when Charlie Whitehurst was calling the plays. Despite his early-season struggles, Hunter leads the receivers on the team with 360 yards, sitting at second overall in receiving yards for the Titans only behind tight end Delanie Walker.

The Texans’ defense has a monster in J.J. Watt and should have Jadeveon Clowney back, but they are ranked 26th overall in pass defense. Mettenberger should be able to float the ball over the top to Hunter multiple times in this game. With the rookie quarterback likely to be given freedom to throw the ball downfield by head coach Ken Whisenhunt in an effort to spark the offense, Hunter is primed for at least a touchdown or two.

Hunter still has a lot more to prove before fantasy owners can say that he was a good pickup, but he should be a lock for at least 10 points in PPR formats and has the potential to put up huge numbers against a weak Houston secondary.
