Obviously the two main categories that you’re looking to find strength in when drafting a fantasy basketball point guard are points and assists. However, what makes guys more valuable than others is if they’re able to fill up the box score beyond that. In that light, these are the top 15 point guards for the upcoming season.

15. Jrue Holiday

We barely got to see Holiday in New Orleans last season, but we know that he’s a force when healthy. He’s a two-way guard that can shoot the three well also. The only question is how much he’ll score with the Pelicans and what he’ll look like in their system for a full season.

14. Michael Carter-Williams

Though the 76ers are going to be pretty terrible this season, Carter-Williams proved that he can put up big numbers on a bad team. His injuries lessen his value, but he’s a nice guy to have if he’s on the floor.

13. Mike Conley

Conley is another underrated point guard option, especially with the way that he can accrue steals on that Memphis defense. He may not be a flashy pick, but he’ll get the job done on your squad.

12. Monta Ellis

There’s no doubt that Ellis has found new life in Dallas and has become a reliable fantasy option. You have to worry about how much value Chandler Parson will take from him, but the numbers should still be there for Monta this season.

11. Goran Dragic

Dragic was a monster last season and could have been on the short-list for MVP candidates. With another guard in Phoenix, that production could slide a little bit, but the veteran point guard is too good to no put up numbers at all.

10. Kyrie Irving

With LeBron and Kevin Love now flanking him in Cleveland, it’s not surprising that Irving is expected to have a very nice year this season. There are a lot of mouths to feed with the Cavs, which hurts his value slightly, but it should be a nice year nonetheless for the dynamic point guard.

9. Eric Bledsoe

Bledsoe’s skill-set is incredibly versatile in that he can affect the game in so many ways. Not only is that valuable to the Suns as a team, it’s also a huge asset for fantasy.

8. Kyle Lowry

Lowry is undoubtedly the heart of the Raptors coming into this season. As they look to go even further in the East this season, expect Lowry to put up another monster season.

7. Damian Lillard

Lillard is quickly becoming a star in this league. He’s going to score, distribute, and get you a plethora of made threes. The defensive stats aren’t going to be there, though, and his overall field goal percentage may not be ideal. That’s why he’s not higher on this list.

6. Ty Lawson

As the Nuggets come into this season looking to try and make a postseason push, Lawson is going to be the biggest factor in that. He’s immensely talented and, if he can be healthy, he could be in for a monster year in Denver.

5. John Wall

People continue to sleep on John Wall to a certain degree for reasons that I can’t really imagine. Not only can he fill up the box score, but he’s also an improved shooter and should have a big start to the year with Bradley Beal sidelined with injuries.

4. Derrick Rose

There are obvious questions when it comes to Rose and this ranking may be heavily influenced by excitement, narrative, and the preseason. However, Rose is near unstoppable when he’s at his best and that’s worth the gamble in fantasy.

3. Chris Paul

Paul is the best pure point guard in the game right now and is playing on a title contender. He’s a legitimate threat to average 20 points and 10 assists while shooting efficiently and getting a hefty number of steals. You have to be excited about his fantasy prospects.

2. Stephen Curry

Stephen could be a dark-horse MVP candidate this season if the offense takes a step forward under Steve Kerr. If that’s the case, you have to imagine monster numbers and that obviously translates well to fantasy.

1. Russell Westbrook

He’s going to produce all over the box score for the Thunder at any time. However, given that he’s going to have a month or so to carry this team while Durant is out, it’s hard to imagine him not having a ridiculous statistical output to begin the year.
