Fantasy Football Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickup: RB Jonas Gray

The New England Patriots, like many teams in the NFL, have been hit hard with injuries in the past few weeks, as their offense took a big hit by losing running back Stevan Ridley for the remainder of the season. But like so often with the Patriots, they had someone step up.

Fantasy football owners of Shane Vereen must have been ecstatic at the thought of Vereen getting some more carries, but it was instead Jonas Gray getting a bulk of the rushing attempts in the Patriots’ blow out win against the Chicago Bears. Against the Bears’ dreadful defense, Gray ran the ball 17 times for 86 yards for a great 5.1 yards per carry. Gray was kept out of the end zone in large part to Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski having a monster days of their own.

In Week 9, it will be the big showdown that all football fans love between Brady and the Patriots vs. Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, but this season, the Broncos’ defense looks very good especially against the run.

Gray will likely be getting a good amount of the workload in Week 9, which makes him a great add for owners who may need a running back moving forward this season, and certainly for owners of Ridley.

Going against the Broncos likely won’t produce a great day fantasy wise for Gray, but getting a starting running back off the waiver wire is always and nice thing. It appears that the Patriots will still be using Vereen mostly in the passing game, which opens up the door for Gray to get a good amount of carries, and should certainly be their goal line back.
