Top 15 Fantasy Basketball SGs of 2014-15

At a position that may not be as laden with star power like point guard, small forward and power forward, there are still players across the league who are proficient at putting the ball in the basket. With two future Hall of Famers at the tail end of their careers looking to prove that they can still dominate this league, there will be plenty of SG storylines. The one thing to look for at a position that scores so steadily: the intangibles.

15. Jimmy Butler

With the return of Derrick Rose, who Bulls fans are praying will remain healthy, and the addition of a better offensive option down low in Pau Gasol, Butler won't need to worry about an immense offensive contribution. That will be a positive for Butler, who should see better shots improving his percentages. He's an improved three-point shooter and will light up the box score with his ability to rebound and steal the ball at two positions.

14. Gordon Hayward

Whether or not Hayward was worth the four-year, million he received this offseason remains to be seen, but he's worth a spot in this top 15. He's on a young Jazz team full of promising talent and will be their offensive leader like he was a season ago when he averaged 16.2 PPG and over five RPG & APG plus a SPG. Assuming he doesn't get complacent now that he's been paid, fantasy owners should expect Hayward to have a solid year.

13. Victor Oladipo

Although Oladipo could miss a couple of weeks to start the year with a fractured cheek bone, he's in a position to have a breakout year. After a sensational rookie campaign, averaging 13.8 PPG, over four RPG & APG plus 1.6 SPG, Oladipo is now the man in the backcourt after Orlando traded Arron Afflalo to Denver. If he can improve his three-point shooting, Oladipo could be a 20 PPG guy, averaging close to five RPG and APG.

12. Bradley Beal

Beals' offensive production makes him a potential top-tier shooting guard. The addition of Paul Pierce -- who, though extremely valuable, is not the same versatile scorer like Trevor Ariza was -- will allow Beal to hoist up even more shots. Fantasy owners should not be worried about his fractured wrist as his cast is off and he has already begun shooting. Once he returns, expect Beal to average around 20 PPG and flirt with four RPG and APG.

11. DeMar DeRozan

DeRozan truly emerged as a balanced All-Star last season, averaging 22.7 PPG with over four RPG and APG. If he wants to improve his stock, he'll still need to ameliorate his three-point shooting, as he averaged less than one made from behind the arc last year. With that said, DeRozan's athleticism and ability to drive will allow him to have another All-Star caliber season.

10. Dwyane Wade

Wade was a consistent MVP candidate before LeBron James relocated to Miami. James is now back in Cleveland, but Wade is now a 32-year-old with knee problems. Wade dedicated this offseason to getting healthy and in shape. He appears to be on a mission to prove that he, along with Chris Bosh, can win without LeBron. Assuming his knees are on board with his mind and heart, D-Wade could lead this Heat team yet again and be an MVP candidate.

9. Kobe Bryant

What can we expect from a 36-year-old who has played just six games over the last year and a half? Assuming he's healthy, we could expect a lot, but that's a risky assumption. Presuming that the Mamba will stay healthy, Kobe will undoubtedly lead a Lakers team with a bunch of new faces like Jeremy Lin and Carlos Boozer, who will start alongside him. Regardless of who he plays with, Kobe will put up his 20-25 PPG and over four RPG and APG.

8. Goran Dragic

Dragic finished last season as a top-20 player -- not just as shooting/point guard, as he averaged 20.3 PPG, 5.9 APG and 3.2 RPG with 1.4 SPG. The Suns improved this offseason, however they added more depth in the backcourt with Isaiah Thomas and Tyler Ennis, which could deduct from Dragic's production. Despite the additions, Dragic is the floor general in Phoenix and even if he has a slight drop scoring, his assists could skyrocket.

7. Nicolas Batum

Batum is an extremely versatile fantasy contributor. He won't light it up offensively, but he did shoot a very high percentage from three last year, adding 7.5 RPG, 5.1 APG and just under one SPG and one BPG. Batum's value can't be measured by his PPG, which makes him an indispensable option for fantasy owners. He could even slip into the third or fourth rounds, which would be a steal given his diverse skill set.

6. Eric Bledsoe

As a member of the deep Suns backcourt, Bledsoe established himself as their most dynamic guard despite missing 39 games last year. Like Goran Dragic, his numbers could drop slightly with Isaiah Thomas and Tyler Ennis. Bledsoe is still an explosive scorer who will average around five rebounds and assists, plus a steal or two. He has the most upside in that Phoenix backcourt and could be a triple-double candidate every night.

5. Monta Ellis

Ellis fit in perfectly with the Mavericks last season, averaging 19.0 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 5.7 APG and 1.7 SPG. He has lightning speed and is an excellent three-point shooter, which was even more of an asset last year when he took fewer threes to improve his overall FG percentage. Chandler Parsons is now in Dallas, but the Mavs lost offense when they traded away Jose Calderon, so Ellis shouldn't defer too much. If anything, he'll have more assists.

4. Klay Thompson

The less publicized half of the Splash Brothers may be the more complete player. You know what you're getting from Thompson offensively, although he could amplify his game even more. Thompson is a solid on-the-ball defender and should be a better rebounder at the SG position with his 6-foot-7 frame. If he averages over a steal, close to four rebounds and three assists while shooting over 40 percent from three, he'll be a top-20 fantasy talent.

3. Kawhi Leonard

It will be interesting to see how Leonard follows up his MVP performance in the NBA Finals with a full season ahead. He is without question the most dynamic player on a veteran Spurs team, and similarly to Nicolas Batum, he contributes in many facets of the game. He could be a top-10 fantasy player given his athleticism, ability to average over seven boards, two steals and a block, plus an incredibly high percentage from the floor.

2. James Harden

There is really no debate at who the top two players at the position are, it's just a matter of preference how you decide to rank them. James Harden is a flat out stud and should have a similar season to his 2013-2014 campaign in which he averaged 25.4 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 6.1 APG, 1.6 SPG and 2.4 3PG. The only difference this year is that Trevor Ariza is replacing Chandler Parsons and Jeremy Lin, meaning Harden's scoring may increase.

1. Stephen Curry

Stephen may also be the top point guard to some people, just proving that his versatility allots him the top spot in this countdown. Curry was actually the second-best fantasy player last season behind Kevin Durant, and it's no surprise as he averaged 24 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 8.5 APG, 1.6 SPG and 3.3 3PG. With Shaun Livingston's addition, Curry could play off the ball and increase his scoring if Steve Kerr decides to play a smaller lineup.
