Fantasy Football Week 9 Start or Sit: Wes Welker

One of the biggest matchups of the NFL season is always when Tom Brady and the New England Patriots face off against Peyton Manning and now the Denver Broncos. With the NFL season now in Week 9, both the Broncos and the Patriots are playing at a high level and will once again both be in the hunt in the AFC with both of their offenses coming off nice weeks.

Broncos WR Wes Welker’s career has greatly been helped from playing with both Brady and Manning, as Welker has been a lucky WR to be able to play with two of the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks, and his stats over his career show that.

However, this season has not been a good one for Welker, as he has been suspended and suffered yet another concussion, which has kept him off the field. Welker doesn’t seem to be very involved in the Broncos’ offense right now compared to last season, when he caught 73 passes in 13 games.

So far in five games this year, Welker has just 181 receiving yards on 19 catches with one touchdown, which is surely to the disappointment of his fantasy football owners.

A major concern for fantasy owners in regards to Welker is that obviously his catches are low, but so are his targets, as in the last three weeks Welker has only been thrown to by Manning just seven times.

This week against his former team, Welker should be sat by fantasy owners despite the possibility of Manning trying to help Welker stick it to the team that didn’t want to pay him a few seasons ago, but nothing so far this season has shown that Welker should be played right now.
