Fantasy Football Week 9 Sleeper: Rueben Randle

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

New York Giants WR Rueben Randle should be highly considered as a fantasy football sleeper heading into his Week 9 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.

Randle has quietly put up good enough numbers for fantasy owners to at least warrant a roster spot on your team this season. However, he hasn’t done anything special enough to make him an every-week starter, but the numbers are there for him to have a huge day at any moment. In my opinion, Monday night will be the night Randle finally shines for fantasy owners.

If you asked me two weeks ago if Randle would have any fantasy relevance facing the Colts’ defense I probably would have said no; but after last week’s defensive meltdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers, I believe Randle has a significant chance to succeed. The Colts were torched all day by the Steelers wide receivers for 23 receptions, 321 yards and five touchdowns, totaling 58 fantasy points. Till that point the Colts had been pretty tough against opposing wideouts, conceding only 11 fantasy points-per-game. This past Sunday, though, they were exposed in a big way by Ben Roethlisberger and his receiving corps. Manning won’t be any slouch to go up against either. Throwing only one pick in the past five games and having Randle, Odell Beckham Jr. and Larry Donnell at his disposal could spell trouble for the Colts passing defense.

The second-round pick out of LSU heads into Monday night’s festivities as QB Eli Manning’s No. 1 target. In a week where there are many players on byes, Randle has huge sleeper potential at the WR3 position. In PPR leagues he would be a undoubted starter in my book, getting over nine targets and four receptions in the past five games. In standard leagues, if you are questioning who to start at your Flex position, roll the dice with Randle, along with being Manning’s No. 1 receiver he also is tied for fifth in the NFL with 13 red zone targets, so he is bound to improve upon his two receiving touchdowns this season.
