2014 Fantasy Hockey: Pekka Rinne Back In All-Star Form

It wasn’t long ago that Nashville Predators G Pekka Rinne was an elite fantasy hockey goaltender. He was constantly among the league leaders in saves and games, which launched him to the top of many cheat sheets.

Unfortunately, Rinne missed almost all of the 2013 season with a nasty hip injury. He also suffered an infection in the surgically repaired hip that delayed his recovery quite a bit and forced him to miss even more time. He barely played at all and his fantasy value was surrounded with question marks heading into the start of the 2014 season.

Luckily, Rinne rehabbed hard and recorded a 3-0-1 with a 2.25 G.A.A. and .920 Save Percentage last April. He played strongly and looked like an elite level goaltender, even if many people didn’t really notice. However, the writing was on the wall for Rinne to have a bounce back season in 2014, and he has not disappointed.

The Finish goalie has carried over that success into this season. In eight starts, he has a glimmering 6-1-1 record. He has an equally impressive 1.71 G.A.A. and .936 Save Percentage. He has outperformed nearly every other goalie in fantasy.

Rinne, the two-time Vezina Trophy finalist, is once again a top-tier fantasy goaltender. He may not receive the name recognition of Tukka Rask or Henrik Lundqvist, but Rinne will be nearly as productive when it is all said and done.
