Martavis Bryant Week 9 Fantasy Football Projection

In Week 8, not only did Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger find the end zone six times against the Indianapolis Colts, he also found what could possibly be his new favorite red zone target.

Martavis Bryant, the 6-foot-4, wire-framed wideout, has looked incredible the past two games for the Steelers. He is slowly but surely overshadowing fellow receiver Markus Wheaton on the depth chart. Over the past two weeks, Big Ben has targeted Bryant 12 times, with three of those targets resulting in touchdowns.

There is a lot of upside going forward for the rookie standout who started opposite Sammy Watkins at Clemson. With a tall, lanky frame and speed for days, Bryant has drawn comparisons to former Steelers great Plaxico Burress.

Heading into Week 9, the Steelers will play host to their division rivals the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have a strong, aggressive defense, but at times have faltered in the secondary against opposing wide receivers. They currently surrender the most receptions (122) and yards (1,612) in the NFL to WRs, and it couldn’t come at a worst time with Roethlisberger coming off a 500-yard passing performance last Sunday.

Bryant should see a lot of targets, especially in the red zone for the Steelers on Sunday night. Currently available in over 80 percent of ESPN fantasy football leagues, Bryant could make for a great addition to your team for the rest of the season. He also has potential to be a sneaky fill-in play this week, earning solid WR3 status.

Big Ben has been on fire as of late, so I expect this trend to continue now that he has found a big red zone target in Bryant. Look for these two to gel once again in Week 9.

Bryant’s fantasy forecast: five receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown.
