Week 9 Fantasy Football: Sit or Start Justin Forsett

The running game of the Baltimore Ravens has been a mess this fantasy football season. Ray Rice was kicked off the team following his domestic abuse incident; while Bernard Peirce has become so expendable that he was a healthy scratch last weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals.

In their absence, Justin Forsett, has become the team’s fantasy workhorse. He continues to hold down the starting running back position, and despite the presence of Pierce and Lorenzo Taliaferro, the former seventh rond pick has become a reliable starting back.

Over the last five games alone, Forsett has averaged an impressive 97 all-purpose yards (76.4 rushing/20.6 receiving) per contest. He has already racked up 571 rushing yards on 104 carries (5.5 AVG) throughout the year to go along with 26 receptions for 135 yards. He has become a yardage beast for fantasy owners.

The only thing keeping Forsett from becoming an elite fantasy option is the goal-line presence of Taliaferro. LT has four rushing touchdowns on the year, including two touchdowns from inside the 10-yard line last week alone. Touchdowns are critical in fantasy and the mere fact that Forsett hasn’t scored in three weeks will keep him from entering RB1 territory.

This week, the Ravens square off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Baltimore ran all over Pittsburgh in their earlier meeting for the tune of 157 yards on 36 carries, while Forsett accounted for 56 of those yards on only eight carries. He will see close to 20 touches this Sunday night, so fantasy fans should expect a much more productive outing from Forsett this time around.

Forsett will be a strong RB2 to start in all formats and should easily finish with another 80 all-purpose yards. Just don’t expect a touchdown from him this weekend.
