Fantasy Football Week 10 Start Or Sit: Matt Ryan

Despite their putrid 2-6 record and forgettable start, QB Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons‘ offense has still been productive most weeks and their players should not be overlooked where fantasy football is concerned. Unless, that is, you intend on playing Atlanta’s defense, which most weeks would indicate that you are out of your mind.

Ryan has thrown for an above average 15 TDs in eight games and is essentially averaging two TDs per game, which is more than adequate for fantasy purposes. The Falcons might not be getting a ton of production out of their running game, but the team still presents a huge matchup problem for almost every opposing defense in WR Julio Jones. And Roddy White is still a threat despite not being the player of his former self.

TE Levine Toilolo is learning on the job and will sneak a score in here and there throughout the remainder of the 2014 campaign. Atlanta’s lousy start simply has very little to do with their passing attack although, it hasn’t been as productive as it could be lately.

Ryan has thrown at least one touchdown every week and has yet to throw for under 200 yards passing. He has three three-TD games, one two-TD game and four games with one. One of the three games in which he threw three TD passes was against their NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whom Atlanta takes on this weekend in Florida.

The Buccaneers are 1-7 and despite head coach Lovie Smith being a defensive-minded strategist, the Buccaneers have been utterly rancid on defense and seemingly couldn’t stop a carpenter ant from racking up 100 yards receiving. Although the Falcons are typically pretty awful on the road (and outdoors in general), they will march down the field all afternoon like wartime marauders at the peril of this Tampa Bay defense with Ryan leading the way.

Starting Ryan in Week 10 will lead to success in re-draft leagues, and at his reasonable price on one-week sites like Fan Duel and Draft Kings, he might just be the safest play of the week.

Projection: 285 yards passing, three TDs
