Just as the Philadelphia Eagles were making strides and taking over first place in the NFC East, it all comes crashing down. Quarterback Nick Foles left Week 9 with a collarbone injury. He won’t need surgery, but will miss six to eight weeks. This will give Mark Sanchez an opportunity to start and prove that he’s better than he was in New York.
Sanchez will lead the Eagles on Monday night in a matchup against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers, a year removed from being one of the best defenses, are one of the worst right now. The team allows opposing quarterbacks and wide receivers to score 17.6 and 23.6 fantasy points, respectively.
Sanchez has the best weapons around him compared to any point in his career. With wide receivers like Jeremy Maclin and rookie Jordan Matthews, running back LeSean McCoy and tight ends Brent Celek and Zach Ertz, Sanchez has all of the tools to succeed with the Eagles for the rest of the season.
Sanchez played almost three quarters in relief on Sunday. He went 15-for-22, throwing 202 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He found his No. 1 wide receiver early and often; his first throw was a 52-yard pass and finished with an eight-yard touchdown to Maclin.
There are six teams on bye in Week 10. Owners will be without quarterbacks Tom Brady, Andrew Luck and Philip Rivers. If every other available quarterback has already been scooped up, then Sanchez is your guy. He will be a game manager and will not be forced to throw as often.
Expect 290 yards, two touchdowns and an interception (17 fantasy points) from Sanchez on Monday night.
