Fantasy Football Week 10 Start or Sit: Charles Clay

The Miami Dolphins, winners of three straight, are playing at an incredibly high level and are riding a huge wave confidence after their 37-0 trumping of the San Diego Chargers last Sunday. Ryan Tannehill has been playing well and has been spreading the ball around to a plethora of targets, including his tight end Charles Clay.

Clay has 10 catches during this three-game win streak with 124 yards and two TDs. He, however, has not caught more than five passes since Week 2, and this three-game win streak is the only time he has found the end zone this season.

The Dolphins will travel to Michigan, where the Detroit Lions await with a pass defense that has allowed just 24 fantasy points to opposing tight ends in the last five games. Detroit’s defense has allowed just one tight end to go for more than 70 yards all season. Clay has not had a 70-plus yard performance once this year.

The Lions have allowed the eighth-fewest yards to opposing tight ends and the 12th-fewest receptions to opposing tight ends. Detroit allows a league-low 15.8 points per game and have at least one interception in its last five games, which means that Tannehill may have some difficulty finding his targets.

If you own Clay in a PPR league, you may want to refrain from plugging him into your starting lineup. He has not grabbed enough passes this year, and he may not see enough targets with the pressure than Detroit’s front four will put on Miami.

If you own Clay in a standard scoring league, he could be a decent flex option or starting tight end with all the byes this week. It’s possible that Clay will have about five catches for 50 yards and a potential touchdown in the red zone, since Detroit has allowed just 23 points outside of the red zone this season.
