The days of Jonathan Stewart being an elite running back option are long gone — six years removed, in fact. He was once a RB1 option in 2009, but has since dealt with an array of injuries that have barred him from delivering full potential. Combine that with the running back carousel ran with the Carolina Panthers that includes DeAngelo Williiams returning from injury, and there’s not much left for Stewart. He used to pick up touchdowns regularly, but now it’s a question of if he will.

Because of the running back system and running-centric QB Cam Newton in Carolina, Stewart rarely sees the end zone. He’s reached the promised land just once this season. The opponent he’s facing this week, the Philadelphia Eagles, have only allowed two rushing scores to RBs this season. That’s not placing much faith in me this week in the 48th ranked fantasy running back.

He was producing some decent numbers in past weeks from yards alone, like his 94 total yards from scrimmage against the Seattle Seahawks, but that was with him in the lead role — as I said, Williams has returned. Now Stewart’s carries will be cut in half, and his yards will follow as well. He’s worth about five points this week, and just over 10 points on the off chance he scores. If you’re feeling risky, go for it, and he could be a decent FLEX option, but that’s placing him on a wing and a prayer.
