Week 10 Fantasy Start or Sit: Steven Jackson

Atlanta Falcons running back Steven Jackson has fallen far from the graces of fantasy owners, averaging just 3.6 yards per carry in eight games this season. There’s just no doubt Jackson’s ancient age of 31 and the Falcons’ running back by committee approach has slowed his production drastically, and that really won’t change much for the rest of 2014.

However, for Week 10, Jackson is blessed with one of the most favorable matchups in the entire NFL, as a divisional clash with the hapless Tampa Bay Buccaneers looms. Tampa has only allowed 3.87 yards per carry to opposing running backs, but constantly playing from behind, they really have been burned consistently. Overall, the Bucs’ defense is surrendering 114.6 yards per game on the ground, and hasn’t been much better in fantasy purposes, allowing the 10th most fantasy points to running backs.

In their first matchup, Jackson plodded his way to only 54 yards and a touchdown. Expect these numbers to be far improved for Jackson, as the old man is coming off a long bye and should have very fresh legs to carry the majority of the load for the Atlanta backfield.

Consider Jackson a low-end RB-2 in 10 and 12-team leagues. I’m also betting that we’ll see at least one score from No. 39 come Sunday, as Tampa will probably turn the ball over and give the Falcons favorable field position all day. Jackson is definitely starter material in Week 10, and will have his owners thinking they were back in his St. Louis days. Plug-in for any of your running backs on bye with absolute confidence.

Kyle’s Bold Prediction: 17 rushing attempts, 84 rushing yards, 1.5 rushing touchdowns.
