Fantasy Football Week 11 Waiver Wire Pickup: RB Tre Mason

Tre Mason

Ever since Steven Jackson left, the St. Louis Rams have been looking for their next superstar running back. Even though the trend may change next week, rookie Tre Mason is the Rams rusher you want to own.

The Rams began the season with Zac Stacy as their running back. He scored 26 points in the first three weeks, including back-to-back 11-point games in Weeks 2 and 3. After the bye, Stacy’s role began to diminish week after week. It’s now been two weeks since Stacy has even carried the ball, let alone scored a fantasy points.

The starting role now belongs to Mason with a little bit of  Benjamin Cunningham mixed in. Over the last four weeks, Mason rushed the ball 58 times for 230 yards and one touchdown. He has gotten involved in the passing game as well. In Week 10, he caught four passes on six targets for 33 yards. He has 14 carries in three of the last four games.

Of the three Rams runing backs, Mason has the highest ownership percentage, 45.7 percent. With running backs continually getting hurt, Mason is a must-own rusher just based on his usage. There are four teams on bye in Week 11, which may force owners to start Mason has a low-end RB2 or flex.

The Rams will face a tough Denver Broncos rush defense this week. They allow the 25th-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs (13.6 points). The schedule does ease up a bit after Week 11. The Rams face the San Diego Chargers (17th), Oakland Raiders (2nd) and Washington Redskins (22nd) in Weeks 12 to 14.

While I wouldn’t rush to pick up Mason in standard 10-team leagues, he should be picked up off the waiver wire in deeper leagues (14-16 teams).
