Fantasy Football Week 11 Start or Sit: Matt Asiata

The Minnesota Vikings look to have a promising future. They may have finally found their quarterback, the wide receiver corps is coming together and the defense has some key players. The only question yet to be answered is at running back. The Vikings have used a two-headed monster most of the season. Yet, week by week, the two heads have slowly turned into one. Matt Asiata has fallen by the wayside and should be benched in Week 11.

Since the Adrian Peterson incident, the Vikings have used both Jerick McKinnon and Asiata. McKinnon has been carrying the ball for most of the game while Asiata is used near the goal-line and in short-yardage situations. Since Week 4, McKinnon has carried the ball 85 times compared to Asiata’s 57 carries.

Most, if not all, of Asiata’s value comes from his scoring. He has two three-touchdown games this season. Those six touchdowns are his only rushing scores, though. Asiata has been held scoreless on the ground in seven of the nine games he’s played.

The inconsistency in rushing yards and scoring makes Asiata very unreliable in most leagues. He has six games with less than seven fantasy points. Despite the low scoring totals, fantasy owners are believing in his touchdown scoring. His ownership percentage has gone up 10.9 percent over the last week.

The Vikings do have a favorable matchup this week. They play the Chicago Bears, who just got decimated in Week 10. The Bears rush defense is average, allowing opposing running backs to score 16.3 fantasy points per game.

If you own Asiata, which shouldn’t be the case, he belongs on your bench. He is not scoring on a consistent basis and there are much better options on the waiver wire.
