Fantasy Football Week 11 Start or Sit: Ben Tate

Too much of a good thing is not a bad thing if you’re the Cleveland Browns and their running game, but the team’s talented backfield is driving Ben Tate owners crazy. The Browns have proven to be a serious contenders in the AFC North and their running game is a big reason why. Fantasy owners who have Tate and are looking for a big game in Week 11 should be hesitant to pencil him in as a starter.

After the Browns beat down the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10, they now host the Houston Texans and their struggling defense. Even though the Texans, on paper, present a good matchup for the Browns’ rushing attack, the running back carousel in Cleveland makes it hard to project a lot of points for Tate as well as his teammates Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West.

Last week in the Browns’ dominating victory they ran all over the Bengals. Tate, Crowell and West all had a touchdown and more than nine points in standard fantasy leagues. West was the leader of the bunch with 20-plus carries and Tate, along with Crowell, both had under 10. All three backs on the Browns’ roster are talented and capable of being a No. 1 starter, but there are too many carries to go around.

It’s hard to start Tate with confidence against the Texans because there is no telling in the amount of snaps that he will receive.

Ever since Tate went down with an injury early in the season, the outlook at the Browns’ running back position has changed. No longer is Tate the clear-cut No. 1 back, it’s a — I hate to say it — running-back-by-committee approach in Cleveland.

For owners who are looking to use Tate as their No. 2 running back, I would recommend looking for another option to start because he is more of a low-end starter in Week 11. Unless there is an injury or the Browns finally name Tate the starter, it would be wise not to expect anything more than 50 yards and 6-8 carries for Tate.
