Fantasy Football Week 11 Start or Sit: Doug Baldwin

With Percy Harvin now playing for the New York Jets, fantasy owners were expecting a big explosion from Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin. Well, so far it hasn’t happened, but don’t give up hope yet.

Baldwin has caught 38 passes for 440 yards and one touchdown this season. Despite the average stats, he still leads the team in receiving  yards. His biggest game was the Week 7 loss to the St. Louis Rams. He caught seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. Since that game, he has caught six for 61 yards, five for 38 and four for 31. Those aren’t the numbers fantasy football owners want to see out of one of the Seahawks’ primary wide receivers.

The Seahawks play at Arrowhead Stadium this week against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have given up less than 200 yards passing per game this season, a tad under the NFL average. The Chiefs’ pass defense is good, but they only have 25 sacks through nine games, meaning Russell Wilson should have time to drop back. The Chiefs’ secondary has picked off just four passes all season, meaning this isn’t a big ball-hawking team.

That said, I can see Seattle running the ball a lot with Marshawn Lynch, especially with him coming off a monster week where he scored four touchdowns. This may seem like a death sentence for Baldwin owners, but Lynch’s running may actually open up the passing game even more. You also have to like the fact that Baldwin has been targeted 30 times in the past four weeks, meaning Wilson is looking his way.

The bottom line is that Baldwin is capable of catching six or seven balls against the Chiefs in Week 11. That means he could be anywhere between 45 and 75 yards. I think Wilson will find Baldwin for at least one touchdown too. With four teams on a bye in Week 11, Baldwin may be the best option you have for a WR3.

Start Doug Baldwin in Week 11.
