Fantasy Football Week 11 Sleeper: Robert Griffin III
The Washington Redskins are coming off a bye and face a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense ranked 29th in yards per game and 30th in points allowed per game. That should be enough of a reason for anyone to want to start Robert Griffin III this week, but if you need some reassurance, here is why you should start him Week 11.
The Bucs’ defense has given up the fourth most fantasy points to opposing QBs this year, and in all but three games they have allowed multiple touchdown passes.
Griffin is only owned in 57 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues because he missed six games after dislocating his ankle Week 2. If Griffin was ever in a better situation to have a breakout week, it’s against this generous defense. It also helps that the Redskins will be at home, as two of their three wins have been at home this year.
Having Alfred Morris and Griffin in the lineup is also a key to success in the Redskins’ offense. With the read-option threat always there, defenses must respect each Griffin and Morris. Morris averages 4.9 yards per carry with Griffin under center and only 3.7 without him.
When the Redskins’ ground game is working, their whole offense is working. The run opens up play-action passes, which is a staple in this offense. The run game (and staying healthy) are what made Griffin’s rookie season so magical, and both of those things will be working for the Redskins tomorrow.
Tomorrow we will see the same player we saw his rookie year. Just in case you still aren’t convinced, the last time Griffin faced the Bucs, he threw for a then career-high 323 yards and rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown.
Prediction: Griffin throws for 289 yards, 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Griffin will rush for 24 yards. In standard leagues, Griffin will get 25 points.
