Fantasy Football Week 12 Waiver Wire Pickup: QB Drew Stanton

Last week I wrote that Arizona Cardinals replacement QB Drew Stanton would need to prove that he’s a consistent player before I consider starting or picking him up off waivers, and he did just that in a win over the No. 1 Detroit Lions quarterback defense. Not only did the Cardinals leave the week as the only one loss team in the league, but Stanton had a stat line one might mistake for Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers.

The Lions have only given up 20+ points one time this season, and that was from Brees with 21. Stanton came deadly close with 18 – in standard scoring leagues — with a pair of touchdowns and more than 300 passing yards. However, his four game streak without an interception was set to rest, throwing a pair of INTs.

This week, the Cardinals’ new leading man heads into what many would expect to be his biggest challenge at the Seattle Seahawks. But the Seahawks have proven time and time again this season that they’re not the No. 1 defense they were once perceived from their Super Bowl last year.

Their pass defense still ranks eighth, but they can’t seem to stop top performing teams’ QBs from making headlines. We’ve seen the likes of Tony RomoPeyton Manning and Philip Rivers all throw at least two touchdowns. Heck, even Austin Davis had a successful day against the Legion of Boom. With the way the Cardinals are rolling right now, and a more than capable QB filling in for Carson Palmer, I have no problem advocating him at the moment.

He might not be worth a start every week, but with teams like the St. Louis Rams and Atlanta Falcons, I think you’ll be able to make use of him at least once this season. He is owned in less than 10 percent of leagues, so he should be fairly available this week, but probably not for long.
