Fantasy Football Week 12 Waiver Wire Pickup: WR Michael Floyd

Michael Floyd, Arizona Cardinals, 2014 Fantasy Football

Let me preface this by saying that Michael Floyd is not an immediate play — he’ll just be sitting on your bench for the majority of the season if you pick him up. However, that’s not to say he doesn’t have value. Why is this? It’s his consistency (or lack thereof), that concerns me. But he’s a streaky player who you won’t be able to afford another team owning.

Take a look at your lineup. There’s probably some player you’ve been waiting to breakout or has fazed out since a streak of his own. The point being, there’s someone disposable who Floyd can replace.

In the past four weeks, Floyd averaged just one point per game for the Arizona Cardinals. Then last week, he blew up for 17 points, including two touchdowns that doubled his season total. But this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Floyd reach double digits — he’s done so on four other occasions, but he’s also scored below four points five times.

He’s full of highs and lows, so I can’t necessarily recommend him as a constant contributor; even his matchups aren’t indicative of his performance. You’ll just have to roll the dice with him when you need to, and you have a 50-50 chance of it panning out.

But think about it: if you don’t take the chance, someone else will. And with the playoffs on the horizon, you can’t risk that someone else will benefit from luck you could otherwise have. He’s owned in about 80 percent of leagues right now, so the chances of picking him up are slimmer. But take a look if he’s there before he’s owned in more than 90 percent of leagues after this week.
