WR Kenny Britt‘s career has been a disappointment to say the least. There were flashes of greatness before he suffered a devastating knee injury in 2011. Coming off a nine-touchdown campaign, the world thought he would break out and be a top wide receiver.
That never panned out, and the Tennessee Titans finally quit on him this offseason. He was given a chance by the St. Louis Rams. Jeff Fisher brought him in to bolster a weak receiving corps for cheap. He is the man who originally drafted him, so he thought he could fix him.
So far, this season he hasn’t been great. That is, until last week. With Shaun Hill back at quarterback, Britt had the best day he’s had in years. He brought in four balls on seven targets for 128 yards and a touchdown. This performance has the fantasy football world excited that they could have a late-season waiver wire pickup that could become a game-changer.
Is Britt really a game-changer? The only difference between last week and the week before is Austin Davis and Hill. He had one big play, a 63-yard touchdown, that accounted for 12 of his 18 points in standard leagues. It is hard to rely on that kind of play to happen every week.
He is a big-play guy so far this season, but he isn’t getting many opportunities. He averages 17.6 yards per reception, which lands him fifth in the NFL. With that, he has less than 450 yards on the season. That shows the inconsistency in which he is used.
He is facing the San Diego Chargers this weekend. This team has the sixth-best defense in the league. Going up against a team with Britt as their biggest offensive weapon is nothing to be scared of. The Rams win with defense. They aren’t going to wake up one day and be a reliable fantasy offense.
Even if you are desperate, there are better options out there. This is a late-season Kevin Ogletree. This game will end up being the outlier. Don’t take a chance and start Britt. He won’t do well this week, or any remaining week.
