Fantasy Football Week 12 Waiver Wire Pickup: WR Cody Latimer
Week 11 wasn’t kind to the Denver Broncos. Along with losing to the St. Louis Rams 22-7, the Broncos lost two of its best players. With those two players most likely out for Week 12, backup players are now needed to step up. Enter Cody Latimer. Despite only having one catch on the season, he could see a huge increase in production next week.
The Broncos lost tight end Julius Thomas to an ankle injury and Emmanuel Sanders suffered a concussion after a vicious hit along the sideline. The offense is already without its top two running backs, Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman. These are hard times for the Broncos offense.
Latimer was active in Week 10 against the Oakland Raiders, only the fourth time this season, and had just one catch for nine yards. He has been sitting on the bench for most of the season behind the usual starters and Andre Caldwell. Both Latimer and Caldwell will compete for playing time to fill in for Sanders.
We all know the health issues Wes Welker has dealt with throughout his career. He isn’t playing as much as he used to due, which opens up some doors for Latimer. Keep tabs on the Broncos practices to see who is starting opposite of Demaryius Thomas and taking first-team reps.
Latimer is owned in just 0.3 percent of ESPN.com leagues. While Latimer won’t have the production that Sanders has had this season, he could be a nice sleeper in deeper leagues. In standard, 10-team leagues, there may be better options available, but keep your eye on Latimer heading into Week 12.
