Fantasy Football Week 12 Waiver Wire Pickup: RB Bryce Brown

The end of the fantasy football regular season is quickly approaching and the scramble to find one last hidden gem is underway. Typically with the end of the regular season comes a ton of injuries that pile up for teams, so there are always plenty of opportunities to find a decent contributor in late November and December. But the past two years have been different as most of the injures actually occurred earlier in the season due to the reduced number of practices teams have in the offseason, and as a result most fantasy teams already have the good backups on their squads.

With that said, if Bryce Brown happens to still be available in your league, I would strongly suggest passing on him as Fred Jackson is scheduled to return from his groin injury this week. At the very least he will split time with Anthony Dixon, and Dixon has been the primary backup to Jackson when it comes to getting carries this season. Dixon is averaging 4.1 yards per carry as compared to Jackson’s 4.2, so there’s not that big of a drop off in production, meaning there is no need to rush him back into the fold.

Even though Brown was splitting snaps with Dixon in Jackson’s absence, he still wasn’t getting the same number of carries. All he was getting was most of the passes out of the backfield. Now since the Buffalo Bills have been struggling to make big plays down the field, Kyle Orton’s check downs to Brown would at least supply some fantasy production from the disappointing back but you can now expect that production to go down quite a bit as his snaps will be reduced this week against the New York Jets. Also the main issue with Brown is his propensity to fumble at the most inopportune times; just look at his fumble as he was going into the end zone against the Kansas City Chiefs two weeks ago.

So given the facts that he won’t get that much playing time and that he’s turnover-prone, I would look elsewhere for running back help this week.
