Fantasy Football Week 12 Start or Sit: Bishop Sankey

Bishop Sankey has been far from a fantasy football must-start this season, and only if you were really desperate has he even deserved to start. However, last week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers might just have thrust Sankey into fantasy relevancy.

After being a fantasy sleeper at the beginning of the year and paying back his owners with decent points for the first few weeks, Sankey quickly became a fantasy outcast. It doesn’t help that the Tennessee Titans have been a revolving door of mediocre quarterbacks, allowing defenses to hone in on the run game and force the likes of Zach Mettenberger to beat them.

But Monday night was his best fantasy outing since his Week 4 performance against the Cincinnati Bengals, though most of that can be chalked up to horrible tackling by the Steelers’ defense. If only he could play them every week.

This week, the Titans will face a Philadelphia Eagles defense that has allowed 13th-most points to opposing running backs. The Eagles have given up an average of 17.6 points (ESPN scoring) to opposing backs, so Sankey could piece together a decent game against this defense. However, relying on a rookie running back on a bad team to give you some sort of production isn’t how I’d recommend running your team.

If you really want to start Sankey, he should be nothing more that a flex option. If you’re leading your league by five wins and want to start your entire bench just to see if your scrubs can win, then by all means start Sankey. However, if you are like most of us mortal owners and need every win you can possible get, I would recommend keeping Sankey on the bench.
