Fantasy Football Week 12 Start Or Sit: Doug Baldwin

Doug Baldwin, Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals

Jeff Curry-USA Today Sports

Ever since the Percy Harvin trade, Doug Baldwin has become the Seattle Seahawks‘ top weapon in the passing game. This week is a great time to play Baldwin mostly because of the matchup.

In Baldwin’s first game after Harvin was traded he was outstanding, scoring 25 points in PPR formats. He had seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown in that game. Since that game he has gotten at least four receptions a week, but hasn’t gone over 61 yards. Although he did score a touchdown last week, Baldwin has fallen victim to a team that is very reliant on the run game, but that may change this week.

The Seahawks are taking on the Arizona Cardinals this week, which is great news for Baldwin owners. The Cardinals are not only bad against the pass, but they are tremendous against the run, which should lead to a lot more passing for the Seahawks. The Cardinals are allowing the third-most passing yards per game this season while allowing the second-fewest rushing yards per game.

It wouldn’t be a surprise for the Seahawks to try to run with Marshawn Lynch in the beginning, but the numbers say that won’t work well, so they are going to eventually have to put the ball in Russell Wilson‘s hands. Baldwin is easily Wilson’s top target and regularly leads the team in targets, so he could be in for a big game.

Before the season started, you would have thought it wouldn’t be smart to play a receiver against the Cardinals because Patrick Peterson would be locked on him, but Peterson isn’t having a great season. Antonio Cromartie has actually been a better cover corner this year opposite Peterson, but either way, none of the two are lockdown corners and Baldwin should be able to get his catches.

In a game where the Seahawks presumably won’t be able to go to their bread-and-butter run game, it would be very wise to have their top receiving threat in your fantasy lineup as the playoffs approach.
