Despite the Tennessee Titans having only two wins in 11 games this season, the franchise can feel fortunate to know rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger is well on his way to becoming the real deal. Most Fantasy Football owners already have their quarterback situation under control this late in the season, but it never hurts to have a solid backup. For that reason, Mettenberger is a must grab off the waiver wire in Week 13.
Last week, I discussed how Mettenberger was a must start in Week 12. He did not disappoint with a season-high 23 fantasy points in ESPN standard leagues. The quality performance came against a Philadelphia Eagles defense that has been racking up the fantasy points this season. In fact, Philadelphia’s 108 fantasy points on defense and special teams ranks second in the league behind only the Miami Dolphins.
With 43 fantasy points in his last two games, it is quite shocking that he is owned in only 4.1 percent of ESPN standard leagues. I have to imagine that number will increase steadily prior to the weekend.
Mettenberger is someone owners should consider starting if they are in a tough bind down the stretch. As I already stated, most owners have their quarterback situation figured out. At the same time, the incredibly important position cannot be taken for granted. That is why I would highly recommend starting him in Week 13.
With the Houston Texans on tap for the Titans, a solid opportunity will present itself. Sure, Mettenberger’s five interceptions in 136 pass attempts are a bit worrisome, especially since the Texans have been stellar when it comes to takeaways this season. However, Houston also ranks third worst in total defense. Giving Mettenberger a chance in the starting lineup could pay dividends.
