Fantasy Football Week 13 Start or Sit: Doug Baldwin

The Seattle Seahawks have a tough divisional matchup on tap against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13. In what is a must-win game for both teams, due to the Arizona Cardinals having a two-game lead in the division, Fantasy Football owners should expect top-notch performances from several playmakers on both squads. However, that does not necessarily mean all the playmakers deserve a start in Week 13.

Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who is owned in 59.1 percent of ESPN Fantasy Football leagues, has been incredibly inconsistent this season. With only two outings in which he posted at least 10 fantasy points, Baldwin is officially labeled a fantasy bust in 2014.

He has averaged a lowly 44.6 receiving yards per game over the last six contests, which includes a 123-yard performance against the St. Louis Rams in Week 7. Over that same span, he ranks 39th in the league in fantasy points per game (5.2). What has to make it terrifying for Seattle is that Baldwin is the biggest receiving threat on the team, which nearly makes them one-dimensional.

The 49ers have surrendered a middle-of-the-pack 18 receiving touchdowns this season. That could give owners some confidence that Baldwin is worth the start. However, San Francisco also only allows 218.3 receiving yards per game, which makes them one of the best in the league at defending the pass.

With quarterback Russell Wilson throwing just 14 touchdowns in 11 games this season, and Baldwin only hauling in two of them, starting him against a quality defense would be a huge mistake in Week 13.
