Sometimes it is easy to get carried away with a player after they put up two 20-plus-point performances in Fantasy Football. However, just because Arizona Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton recorded 22 fantasy points against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 and 20 fantasy points against the Detroit Lions in Week 11 does not automatically make him worthy of a consistent start.
Stanton fell flat against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 12. His 149 passing yards and one interception in an important divisional matchup could not have left a good taste in the mouth of the people who cheer for the Cardinals. More importantly, Fantasy Football owners who took a chance on him after his 20-point performance the week before have been left reeling during a critical time of year.
In Week 13, Stanton will go up against a genuinely bad Atlanta Falcons team. However, what many owners may not realize is that the Falcons have limited opposing quarterbacks to 15.8 fantasy points per game this season. With Stanton failing to provide any sort of electricity on offense, starting him would be a huge mistake given the matchup.
There is nothing wrong for owners wanting to bank on Stanton’s Week 3 and Week 11 performances. During those two games, he proved he has what it takes to be a top-notch quarterback. Unfortunately, the clear lack of consistency means he is someone fantasy owners simply cannot trust. For that reason, I cannot advise owners to start him, especially when ESPN standard leagues have him projected for 15 points.
