Fantasy Football Week 13 Start or Sit: Frank Gore

It is always frustrating when a player fails to live up to expectations in Fantasy Football. That is exactly what San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore has done this season. Despite having great numbers against the Seattle Seahawks at home in his career, it is still a very hesitant decision to give him a start in Week 13.

Gore has recorded double-digit fantasy points just four times this season and only once since Week 6. In fact, he is averaging a lowly 5.3 fantasy points in his past six games, and that includes a 14-point performance against the New Orleans Saints in Week 10. In a guaranteed quality start against the Washington Redskins, Gore mustered just one fantasy point after recording 36 rushing yards on 13 attempts and a lost fumble.

The 31-year-old has averaged 5.5 yards per carry against the Seahawks at home over the past three seasons. Typically, that statistic alone would be good enough to give him the start considering it nearly guarantees a 100-yard rushing day. However, Gore has struggled mightily to hit the 100-yard mark this season as he has only accomplished the feat twice.

To make matters worse, the Seahawks defense is beginning to play really good football once again. They are allowing a stingy 88.4 rushing yards per game, which is good for sixth in the league. They also have only allowed opposing running backs to reach the end zone seven times in 11 games this season.

ESPN standard leagues have Gore projected for 12 fantasy points in Week 13, which I believe is on the generous side. Sure, there is a great possibility he does hit double-digit points against the Seahawks, but my money is on him falling flat. For that reason, owners should stay away from starting him on Thanksgiving.
