Fantasy Football Week 13 Start or Sit: Reggie Bush

If Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush did not have to endure numerous injuries, one would assume he would have been a factor in Fantasy Football in 2014. Unfortunately, a nagging ankle injury has limited his production, which has been incredibly frustrating for owners. The good news is Bush will be set to play in Thursday’s Thanksgiving showdown against the Chicago Bears. The bad news is Fantasy Football owners need to stay as far away as possible in Week 13.

I understand it is all about playing the matchups, something I consistently do on a week-to-week basis. At the same time, I cannot foresee a situation in which it is an intelligent decision to start Bush against the Bears. Chicago has allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs in ESPN standard leagues. That, combined with the fact Bush will be competing for carries, means his projection of four fantasy points is rather generous.

Outside of the 15 fantasy points he recorded against the Green Bay Packers in an impressive Week 3 win, Bush has averaged a dismal 3.5 fantasy points in six games. His stock has been dropping for weeks due to his inconsistent playing time. Of course, I have to imagine his stock would have dropped regardless considering how poorly he has played.

Bush has the potential to have a breakout performance on any given Sunday, which is why he is still owned in more than 50 percent of leagues. If there was ever a time for him to give the Lions some solid production, it seems it would occur against Chicago on a big stage. For me, that is not a good enough reason to give him the start.
