Fantasy Football Week 13 Start or Sit: Bishop Sankey

Of all of the rookie running backs entering the 2014 NFL Draft and the 2014 NFL season, Bishop Sankey might have been the trendiest pickup among Fantasy Football owners. After a wonderful career in the college ranks and a seemingly open opportunity with the Tennessee Titans, him having fantasy value seemed like a natural consequence.

However, it wasn’t as natural as many people expected. At the start of the season, Shonn Greene was getting work in the Tennessee offense ahead of Sankey. That’s not exactly a promising sign, but then the rookie took the job from Greene and fantasy owners once again flocked to his side in support.

The problem is that Sankey hasn’t been any good since he’s gotten the bulk of the work with this Titans team. He has gotten double-digit carries in five of the last six games, which is workload that you have to like. The major issue is that he has averaged fewer than four yards per carry in each of those contests. To make matters even worse, he also averaged fewer than four yards per carry in the one game over his last six that he didn’t get the ball 10 or more times in the running game.

The issue that many owners are probably in, though, is that Sankey is in the middle of a group of mediocre-at-best running backs that some owners have to ride with for better or worse. Given that the Titans face off against a Houston Texans team that doesn’t have a great deal of prowess when defending the run, that might make Sankey seem attractive.

Don’t be fooled by the matchup for Sankey, though. Since he’s taken the job and struggled, there have been other favorable matchups and the rookie has still struggled to get rolling. If I own Sankey and have anyone even remotely close to him in value for my fantasy lineup, I’m starting the other guy.
