Fantasy Football Week 13 Start or Sit: Dan Herron

One of the most disappointing things to happen in the NFL and even in Fantasy Football this season was the injury to Indianapolis Colts running back Ahmad Bradshaw. This was a guy having a fantastic season on a quality team who was also managing to stay healthy—a rarity throughout his career—right up to the point when his season was ended.

In the absence of Bradshaw, Dan Herron joined the oft-criticized Trent Richardson in the Colts’ backfield for the first time last week. Herron didn’t knock anyone on their backside, but he had a nice day of production with 12 carries for 65 yards to go along with five catches for 31 yards. However, it’s unfortunate that the day was largely ruined by a lost fumble.

When looking at Herron’s value in fantasy going forward, though, some people might find that bit difficult considering that the Colts were matched up with the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. However, what people fail to consider in that is that the Colts will face off with the Washington Redskins in week 13, a team that may have a defense even worse than that of the Jags.

Herron is never going to get all of the running back work in this offense as long as Richardson is able to also take the field. However, he seems like he’s going to be inserted directly into the role that Bradshaw was playing in the offense prior to his injury. Considering that Bradshaw had established himself as what is essentially a must-start fantasy option, that bodes well for Herron. You might not feel great about it, but Herron is a solid start this week for fantasy owners.
