Fantasy Football Week 13 Start or Sit: Jerick McKinnon

When Matt Asiata was getting the bulk of the work out of the Minnesota Vikings backfield, Fantasy Football owners were crying for rookie Jerick McKinnon to be on the field more. Not only was he displaying explosiveness and big-play ability, but he was a new look that could have possibly added a new dimension to a young and developing offense.

While McKinnon’s workload has been on the incline over the last several weeks, he still hasn’t fully been given the reigns. The two more surprising factors, though, are that he hasn’t been a reliable or consistent option in Minnesota’s passing game and that he hasn’t been a substantial option for fantasy owners to lean back on to make a playoff push.

The rookie back hasn’t broken the 100-yard barrier over the past four games for the Vikings and has still not been able to put the ball over the goal-line this season. More troubling is the fact that McKinnon also has averaged fewer than four yards per carry twice in the last two games that he’s been a part of with Minnesota.

There’s no denying the talent and playmaking ability of McKinnon. As a prospect that didn’t have a true position in college, he has mountains of upside ahead of him and I fully expect him to have a successful stint in the NFL as both a player and fantasy option. However, even against a struggling Carolina Panthers team and defense, it doesn’t seem like the rookie McKinnon is reliable enough to have in your starting lineup for fantasy in week 13.
