Fantasy Football Week 13 Start Or Sit: Ryan Tannehill

Start Ryan Tannehill Week 13

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Entering their Week 5 bye, the Miami Dolphins were considering a change at quarterback. Ryan Tannehill had started the year averaging only 225.5 passing yards per game with six touchdowns and three interceptions over four games, and had looked like he didn’t have a strong grasp of Bill Lazor‘s new offense.

However, he has been a different quarterback after the bye, averaging 240 yards per game with 14 touchdowns and only five interceptions in seven games, while adding a read-option running threat to his game. This development makes him a must-start this weekend in a plus matchup against a very bad New York Jets defense, and could make him one of the top five quarterbacks of the week.

The Jets’ defense has given up the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season, and have made mediocre fantasy quarterbacks like Kyle Orton and Ben Roethlisberger looks like fantasy studs. They have allowed 27 passing touchdowns in 11 games while only recording three interceptions. No other team has allowed as many touchdowns or as few interceptions.

Tannehill has looked brilliant lately, almost leading the Dolphins to an upset of the Denver Broncos last weekend before Peyton Manning engineered a comeback victory. He has only thrown more than one interception once this season, and has completed more than 70 percent of his passes in five of his last six games. He has also found another reliable wide receiver in Jarvis Landry to throw the ball to, so he has a safety net in case Mike Wallace isn’t open.

Tannehill is coming off one of his best games of the season and is facing the worst defense in the NFL against the pass this Monday night, and he should be started ahead of every quarterback not named Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Andrew Luck or Manning.
