Fantasy Football Week 14 Waiver Wire Pickup: RB Tre Mason
This is the season of rookie superstars. We know of all the rookie wide receivers racking up the fantasy points. Now, there is a rookie running back who is turning heads. As a part of a 52-0 shutout, St. Louis Rams running back Tre Mason is a rusher to snag off the waiver wire for Week 14.
Mason saw very little action in the first five games of the season. He had a total of 52 yards in that span. Then, in Week 7, he rushed 18 times for 85 yards and a touchdown. The Rams might have founds their guy. He continued to get carries despite teammate Zac Stacy being listed atop the depth chart. Since Week 7, Mason has rushed the ball 117 times. In comparison, Stacy and Benny Cunningham have rushed for a combined 33 times.
Most recently, Mason dominated the Oakland Raiders. He had 14 carries for 117 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 41 yards and another score. The Rams defense helped keep the Raiders out of it, which allowed the Rams to continue to run the ball.
Mason is clearly the guy in St. Louis. Stacy went four weeks without a single carry and Cunningham hasn’t topped four carries since Week 6. It’s hard to find a running back with little competition for his starting job. There is no way the Rams coaches will bench Mason for either of the other two options.
The Rams have the Washington Redskins next on their schedule. Despite being a stingy rush defense, the unit allowed Dan Herron to rush for 88 yards and a score.
If you need a running back for this week and the playoffs, Mason may be the only clear-cut starter out there.
