There’s been quite a lack of reliable running backs this season, largely thanks to injuries. Of the 20 running backs to average at least nine points per game in the last four weeks, 13 of them show up on injury reports (DeMarco Murray among them is out for this week). So you might be in need of a running back, to which Dan Herron can fill that need.
He might not be too flashy, but he’s bound to pick up some points for you, if not by yards alone. He’s averaged just under nine points per game in the last four weeks after taking over the Indianapolis Colts‘ running back position for Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw on injured reserve.
He’s already shown he’s capable of big games, as he ran for 88 yards and a touchdown against the Washington Redskins. But he’s also ran for more than 60 yards three times in the last four weeks as well, so he’s shown he could be an RB1 under the right circumstances, but a consistent RB3/FLEX option consistently.
He’ll be running into the Dallas Cowboys this week, who have been recently terrible in home games. This season at home, they’ve given up nine touchdowns compared to just one in away games — an interesting trend. It appears his chances to score this week increase because of that.
I’d also expect his carries to increase, as the Colts will likely be trying to limit QB Andrew Luck‘s fumbles. He leads the league with 12 this season, and has coughed up the ball six times in the last four weeks. Hopefully that will help place the ball in Herron’s hands.
But don’t bank on Herron to be available in your league. as he’s owned in about 60 percent of leagues. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to land him though — I’m expecting a double digit performance from him.
