The second-most important rule in fantasy (behind drafting a kicker in the last round) is to always handcuff your studs. The most recent case takes placed in Arlington, TX as the Dallas Cowboys may be without their superstar running back in Week 16. If you need the backup or want to stifle an opponent, then pick up Joseph Randle.

News broke Monday afternoon that DeMarco Murray will have surgery on his left hand to repair a broken bone. He is currently listed as questionable with the possibilty of playing this week. It all depends on how he heals and regains full mobility in the hand. In case he doesn’t play, Randle becomes the must-own running back.

Murray did play the whole game in Week 15, carrying the ball a whopping 31 times (32 times last week) for 81 yards and two touchdowns. He’s been the superstar every fantasy owner hoped he would be. Randle had just two carries for 13 yards. He had five carries for 36 yards and a score in the last three games.

Randle has shown signs of big-play ability and can be a lead back when called upon. His best season came in Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-17. He had seven carries for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Early reports state that Randle will get the majority of carries, including goal-line attempts with Lance Dunbar being the change-of-pace running back. Both running backs are widely available. If you own Murray, grab Randle as a security blanket. If you do not, pick him up to hurt the Murray owner in your league.

With the question marks around Murray’s status early in the week and the playoffs at hand, Randle is a must-add option.
