Fantasy Football Week 16 Waiver Wire Pickup: WR Charles Johnson

Two of the most important things to examine when looking at waiver wire pickups are recent success and matchups which may break or continue the streak. For Minnesota Vikings WR Charles Johnson, he falls on the positive side of both spectrums. He has been a rising player in recent weeks, whereas his opponent, the Miami Dolphins, are trending down and are now out of the playoff hunt.

Johnson may not be the No. 1 receiver on the roster, but he is the surrogate WR1 for the Vikings, as Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings have been slipping in the past few weeks. Johnson is averaging 10 points per game in the last four games, even with blocks in the road, such as an impressive Detroit Lions defense.

The Dolphins are giving up the 13th fewest points to wide receivers this season, but are certainly looking less impressive as of late. In their last four outings, they’ve given up double digit performances to five receivers, so look at Johnson to add to this growing list of starting performances from receivers as the hottest player on the Vikings’ depth chart.

He’s owned in just 30 percent of leagues right now, but will definitely be high on waiver orders for teams in your league. Put your request for him as soon as you can if you’re looking for a new WR3 or FLEX option. He’ll be in the range of 60 yards and a score this week; he’s definitely worth a start in standard leagues.
