It's championship week for most of the fantasy football world, which always presents a tricky situation. Teams that have already secured playoff spots may rest their players, and there are key injuries that could affect teams this week. If there was a time to add a waiver wire pickup to put your team over the top and secure a league title it would be now. Here are the top five waiver wire pickups for fantasy football Week 16.

The Jaguars D has underwhelmed over the last two games with just three fantasy points total, but host the Titans in what is the least compelling Thursday night matchup of the season. Tennessee is allowing the fifth-most fantasy points per game to opposing defenses. The Jags defense had just six fantasy points in their Week 6 matchup with the Titans, but allowed just 16 points. With Charlie Whitehurst starting, expect a good day from the Jags' D.

With no catches against Dallas on Sunday and just two grabs the week before against Seattle, Matthews has cooled off after a hot start with Mark Sanchez at QB. The Eagles need to win out for a chance to make the playoffs and face a Redskins team that is ready for the offseason. Washington is allowing the fifth-most fantasy points per game to receivers and the third-most TDs. Matthews also had 17 fantasy points in Week 3 against Washington.

3. Shane Vereen

In terms of a pure running back, Vereen is the third, maybe even fourth-best on the Patriots roster. New England plays the Jets this week, who allow the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing running backs, but that's good for Vereen. He has been used as more of a pass catcher for most of the year and had his best fantasy performance against the Jets in Week 7 with 23 points. Expect a similar usage on Sunday with similar results.

2. Chris Ivory

Ivory hasn't had a double-digit fantasy game since Week 8, and the Patriots have been really good against the run over the last three games (fifth-fewest fantasy points allowed per game). If Rex Ryan is on his way out in New York, he'll want nothing more than to beat New England and will do it with solid defense and a good run game. Ivory had his best game this season against the Patriots in Week 7 with 107 yards and a score.

If you're still in a meaningful fantasy game this late in the season, you probably don't need help at the QB position; but if you do, Smith is your guy to pick up. He just had his best yardage game of the year while adding two scores. The Chiefs play the Steelers this week, who are allowing the most fantasy points per game to opposing arms over the last five weeks. Smith could be the guy who leads you to a fantasy league title.
