NBA FanDuel Strategy: 5 Centers Only Worth Playing In GPP Format

NBA FanDuel Strategy: 5 Centers Only Worth Playing In GPP Format

When playing NBA FanDuel, there are typically two strategies to use building lineups. You are either making one taking the least risk you can for cash games (non-tournaments) where 285 will sweep most nights or you are building a risky lineup that could hit 350 if all breaks incredibly right. Rarely are players fit for both these scenarios, however. Here's a look at five centers to only play in GPP when you can take the risk on any given night.

Omer Asik has talent and is a double-double candidate any given slate, but he is undoubtedly dwarfed in the New Orleans Pelicans' offense by all world big, Anthony Davis. His price has dipped under ,000 on FanDuel to ,800, but he is not the consistent option many would think a big would be playing along "Brow." For that reason, he is far better used as a cheap punt-play in GPP rather than relying on 30 points in cash games.

When Tyler Zeller is on his game, he's as good as a mid-tier C option as there is, as he has 20-point potential -- 10 rebounds with adequate tertiary statistic upside -- any given game. But when he is off, and Kelly Olynyk is playing well, it is a far different story. Over his last seven games, he has played anywhere in between 16-31 minutes, making him too risky to be relied on in cash games -- but he still has some GPP upside.

It takes a ton of time and research to play NBA FanDuel on a regular basis and sometimes you just have to block certain teams out of your head as much as possible -- particularly on big slates -- because they just seem to choose their rotation with a Ouija Board prior to every game. No team better exemplifies that statement than the San Antonio Spurs, which is why I fade their players in cash games more often than not.

2. Bismack Biyombo - Charlotte Hornets

Bismack Biyombo is the Charlotte Hornets starting C with Al Jefferson missing significant time, and he plays 25 minutes nearly every game. However, it is a very unpredictable 25 minutes at that. He doesn't score the ball much, so if he doesn't scoop up 10 rebounds, he has a floor of around 15 fantasy points. This is simply woefully inadequate at a position with so many cheap options to be relied on in cash games.

Roy Hibbert might not belong in this category very long as his play has been better lately after missing time early this season. But I still refer to him as "Bermuda Hibbert" since oftentimes it seems he's missing somewhere in the legendary Bermuda Triangle. Recently, I was burnt by Hibbert in cash games more than once, so I want to see a week of consistency from him prior to not having an anxiety attack when putting him in my roster.
