Off the track, Danica Patrick is one of the most popular names when it comes to the sport of NASCAR. Patrick has brought race car driving a broad, new audience, and she has promoted herself and her love of NASCAR across many media platforms. When it comes to her on the track performance, Patrick has been up and down over the course of her career, and now in she is looking to take another step forward in 2015.
Last year, Patrick finished No. 28 in points and did not have any top-three finishes or poles on her resume. Her average finish was 23.7 and overall she totaled a 63.0 driver rating.
In her career thus far, Patrick has proven to be a strong racer at restrictor plate tracks and high-speed intermediate tracks. That is her safest bet for success this season. Short and flat tracks are not Patrick’s strong suit, so she would not be a recommended play in those races.
Patrick would be a good mid-tier play in restrictor plate tracks, because her racing team is best fitted for that style. Stewart-Haas Racing caters to Patrick, and they build her fast cars that seem to fare well against the competition. She actually had one of her best races in recent memory on this type of track in 2013 when she finished 8th and earned the second-best driver rating in the 2013 Daytona 500 race.
Outside of restrictor plate tracks and intermediate tracks, it’s hard to recommend Patrick as solid play elsewhere. Patrick does have the skill set to improve, but at this time she would be a play based on potential and hope for an upset outcome. Patrick is looking to to win her first race since 2008, and we’ll have to wait and see if she can accomplish that in 2015.
