The course at the TPC Scottsdale has been redesigned for the 2015 Phoenix Open. Adjusting to the new course will be easier for the veteran golfers who are aware of just how convivial the environment can be at the tournament. Phil Mickelson is comfortable with the crowds at Scottsdale and loves the west coast swing. He showed last week at the Humana Challenge that the rust is already off.
Given his history. get Mickelson in your lineup for the weekend as Lefty is sure to be in contention on the final day.
Mickelson had some bogey issues last weekend, but still managed to finish at -15. He hit the fairway over 70 percent of the time and had a 75 percent greens in regulation conversion. That is good for top-20 in both categories. These numbers bode well for Phoenix. He finished tied for 24th and pocketed over $46,000, so it is fair to say that Mickelson is ready to go this coming weekend.
This is a homecoming for Mickelson, who opted to help out with the Arizona State University golf team in the winter rather than start his season early. He is the all-time top money winner at this event. Mickelson’s three wins have helped him earn over $3.5 million at the Phoenix Open. Needless to say, Mickelson feels at home at this event.
The changes in the course may favor Mickelson. The bunkers are not as cratered. The four new greens mimic the conditions on the rest of the course. Remember, Lefty has recorded two 60s on this course and is tied for the course record low-72 with a 256. Mickelson’s name is littered across the record books, especially in the early rounds.
Even in a star-filled tournament, Mickelson is worth putting in your lineup. His records in the early rounds make him a good play for Thursday and Friday. After he makes the cut, you can adjust your lineup accordingly. However, Mickelson will be comfortable all tournament long and will provide good scores for your fantasy golf team.
