There was not a more consistent golfer last season than Rickie Fowler, especially in big tournaments. And don’t be mistaken, the Waste Management Phoenix Open is a big early-season tournament that boasts a field of plenty of major winners.

This will be Rickie Fowler’s first tournament in nearly two months, but if you look at his two previous starts this season, he has finished in sixth and third, so he should definitely be one of the favorites starting on Thursday. You may look at his recent history at the Phoenix Open, especially his missed cut last year, and you may be weary about drafting Fowler this week. Don’t put too much stock into that because he was working through swing changes under Butch Harmon. He is very much a safe play this week, and I expect a top-10 finish.

He’s on the verge of breaking out in a big way in 2015. In his last nine starts of the 2014 season, he finished in the top 25 in each of them. He was as consistent as a player could be. This is his first tournament of the year in the United States, so he should be looking to make a splash right off the bat.

This is a different Rickie Fowler. It’s not the same player we saw crack under the pressure of playing in the final round with Tiger Woods. He has matured, he is hitting fairways and he is hitting big putts when it matters. If it wasn’t for a couple of incredible performances by Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson in majors in 2014, then Fowler could have already had his major win already.

Fowler is ready for a big season, and a win at the Phoenix Open wouldn’t be a surprise at all. Draft Fowler this week.
