It seemed like PG Ricky Rubio’s return to the Minnesota Timberwolves went somewhat unnoticed by the majority of the fantasy basketball world. The point guard came back after missing 41 games with a nagging injury and he finally seems ready to start producing for fantasy fans.
In his first action in months, Rubio played very well against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. He scored 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting and was a perfect 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. He also dished out four assists and pulled down three rebounds. He only played 21 minutes, so it was a very small window to gauge the former first round pick.
The following game against the Miami Heat, Rubio played in 23 minutes. He finished with only eight points on 1-of-3 shooting, but he had a strong night moving the ball. He finished the game with nine assists and quickly showed why he should be added in all formats this week.
The point guard has averaged 8.1 assists per game throughout his four-year career. Even better, Minnesota’s roster is full of young shooters, including Kevin Martin, Andrew Wiggins, and Zach LaVine. Rubio should easily post 9-plus dimes per game form here on out.
The only real knock on the Spaniard is that he has never really developed a strong jump shot. His 9.5 points per game eight right on his 10.1 career average and he has never averaged more than 11 points per game. Luckily, his assist totals, combined with his strong FT percentage and steal totals, will allow Rubio to do enough to be a strong PG3 across the board.
Rubio is a must-add in all formats this week. He is one of the best distributors in the entire league and has the potential to post 10-plus dimes per game. He is only owned in 67.8 % of ESPN formats, so make sure to check the waiver wire in your league as soon as possible, because he could be an all-Star pickup at this point in the season.
