Fantasy Basketball: Derrick Rose Proving Critics Wrong

After missing most of the past two seasons with major knee injuries, Chicago Bulls PG Derrick Rose saw his fantasy basketball value drop significantly this offseason. The former NBA MVP was once a top-tier pick and one of the first point guards off the board, but his injury history forced many owners to pass on the star. He even fell outside the top-10 point guards in most instances.

Through the first several months of the season, though, Rose has continued to prove his critics wrong. Rose is averaging a respectable 18.7 points, 4.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds per contest.  Since missing a game in the middle of January to rest, though, Rose has been even more productive. He has averaged an impressive 20.2 points in the last 13 games alone. He has started to look like his former self and he has become one of the top value picks from this year’s draft.

Chicago’s offense has been much stronger this season with Jimmy Butler and Pau Gasol emerging as All-Stars. Their presence has allowed Rose more freedom and has caused his assist totals to go through the roof.

Rose is ready to regain the elite point guards in the game, and even though he won’t receive the attention of Russell Westbrook or Stephen Curry, Rose can be a strong backup fantasy point guard.
