The fantasy baseball season will start in less than 30 days, and we are getting dangerously close to draft day. More and more leagues are moving into keeper formats, but there are more things to think about compared to drafting a standard league. To help those of you with a longterm plan, here are 10 tips for anyone participating in a keeper league this spring.

The closer position has experienced a high turnover rate in recent seasons. There are only so many reliable options, so it is crucial to lock up at least one or two All-Star RPs, even if you have to spend a couple of extra dollars.

It is hard to find elite fantasy options in the infield. In any keeper format, it is even important to have some young, All-Star talent in the dirt. Feel free to move guys like Anthony Rendon and Nolan Arenado a little higher up on your cheat sheets.

Young starting pitchers always get drafted a little higher in standard fantasy formats. This is even more true in keeper leagues, so make sure to go after the young fireballers a little earlier than normal.

In keeper leagues, most people avoid aging sticks. They tend to be worthless from a keeper standpoint and also tend to miss playing time throughout the year. However, they can still have value for one season, so feel free to grab one or two veteran sticks.

It is hard to pass on big name arms like Justin Verlander, Matt Cain, James Shields and C.C. Sabathia. However, their value plummets in keeper formats. They may have value for one year, but keeping them past that is too risky. it is better to go with youth in your rotation.
